Our Process for Driveways

1

Site Survey

We assess the existing surface, drainage requirements, and access. Discuss material options and agree on the design.

2

Ground Preparation

Full excavation to the correct depth. Install hardcore sub-base with proper compaction to prevent future settlement.

3

Drainage Installation

Install soakaways, ACO channels, or connect to existing drainage. Ensure compliance with SuDS regulations for permeable surfaces.

4

Surfacing & Finish

Lay the chosen material with proper falls for drainage. Install edging, seal if required, and final clean.

Why Choose Pimi for Driveways

Proper Sub-Base

The sub-base is where most driveway failures occur. We excavate to the correct depth, use quality MOT Type 1, and compact properly. This prevents sinking, cracking, and weed growth.

Drainage Compliance

Since 2008, new driveways over 5m² require permeable surfaces or drainage to prevent run-off. We handle all planning requirements and install compliant drainage solutions.

10-Year Guarantee

We stand behind our work with a 10-year workmanship guarantee. This covers settlement, separation, and structural defects. We are still in business because our work lasts.

Typical Timeline

Single Car Driveway
3-4 days from start to completion
Double Driveway
5-7 days from start to completion
Large or Complex Driveways
1-2 weeks depending on scope

Dropped kerb applications can add 4-8 weeks for council approval if required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?
Generally no, but since 2008, if your new driveway is over 5m² and not permeable, you need planning permission. We can install permeable surfaces (resin-bound, permeable block paving, or gravel) that do not require permission, or install proper drainage to make impermeable surfaces compliant.
What is the best material for driveways?
It depends on your priorities. Block paving offers the best durability and kerb appeal. Resin-bound is low-maintenance and permeable. Tarmac is the most economical for larger areas. We can advise on the best option for your property and budget.
Do you handle dropped kerb applications?
Yes. We manage the entire process including council application, structural calculations if needed, and the installation. Council approval typically takes 4-8 weeks. Some properties have existing crossovers that just need refreshing.
How long will the driveway last?
With proper installation and normal use: block paving 25-30 years, resin-bound 15-20 years, tarmac 15-20 years. The key is the sub-base preparation, which we take very seriously. Our 10-year guarantee covers workmanship defects.
Can you work around existing features?
Yes. We regularly work around drainage covers, meter boxes, trees with root protection zones, and existing landscaping. We will discuss any constraints during the site survey and plan accordingly.
