Planning whole-house painting in London

Plan a whole-house painting project: list rooms and surfaces, discuss preparation and access, and check what your decorating quote includes.

For a whole-house painting quote, set out which rooms and exterior surfaces you want included, their current condition and whether you will be living at home during the work. Agree the preparation and finish for each area before comparing the total price.

Make a room-by-room list

Walk through the house and list each room, hallway, landing and staircase you want decorated. For each area, note whether you mean walls only or also ceilings, doors, frames, skirting boards and other woodwork. A request to “paint the whole house” still needs an agreed list of surfaces.

Keep exterior work on a separate part of the list. Mark the walls and woodwork you want included, then describe the available access. PIMI’s painting and decorating service covers whole-house interiors, exterior walls and woodwork, with surface preparation and finishing.

Show the condition as well as the colour

Take a wide photograph of each area and closer photographs of anything you want the decorator to inspect. Point out peeling paint, cracks, staining or damaged surfaces. Ask what needs checking and what preparation is proposed before those areas are painted.

List any wallpaper or existing finish you want removed. Ask whether removal and the preparation afterwards are included. A colour choice does not settle the work needed underneath it, so have both recorded in the proposal.

Plan around living in the house

Tell PIMI whether the property will be occupied, empty or part of a wider renovation. Explain which rooms you need to keep using and any dates that matter to you. Ask the team to propose an order of work before agreeing a start date.

  • Which rooms will be worked on first, and when can you use them again?
  • Who will move furniture and remove pictures or curtains?
  • How will floors, furniture and areas outside the work be protected?
  • What access will the team need each day?
  • How will exterior access be assessed and included in the quote?
  • What clearing up and disposal are included?

Check the written quote against your list

Ask for the rooms, surfaces, preparation, proposed paint products and finishes to be named. Check any exclusions against your original list. If you change the scope or choose a different finish, ask for the effect on the price and programme to be confirmed before that work proceeds.

Discuss your whole-house project with PIMI

Share your postcode, number of rooms and whether the house will be occupied. Include your surface list and photographs. For exterior work, describe access and the condition of the walls and woodwork so PIMI can discuss the scope with you.
